A new patio can completely transform your outdoor space, whether you’re dreaming of a spot to enjoy summer evenings, entertain friends, or simply create a low-maintenance area to relax. But if you’ve never had a patio installed before, you might be wondering what the process involves.
At Premier Surfacing, we’ve got years of experience in installing patios across Shropshire, Stoke-on-Trent and Cheshire, and we believe in making every step smooth and stress-free. Here’s what you can expect from start to finish…
1. Initial consultation and planning
It all starts with a chat. We’ll visit your property to get a feel for the space, discuss what you’re looking to achieve, and help guide you through material choices and design options.
Whether you’re after the rustic charm of Indian stone, the neat lines of block paving, or a contemporary slab design, we’ll help you select the best option to suit your style, budget and garden layout.
2. Design and quotation
Once we understand your vision, we’ll put together a tailored design and provide a clear, no-obligation quote. This includes everything—materials, labour, groundwork, and any additional features like edging or drainage—so there are no surprises down the line.
3. Preparation and groundwork
Good preparation is key to a long-lasting patio. We’ll start by clearing the area and excavating the ground to the correct depth. We then lay a solid sub-base, usually made from MOT Type 1 stone, to ensure stability and prevent future movement or sinking.
This step is essential and sets the foundation for a patio that lasts for years.
4. Laying the patio
With the groundwork in place, we move on to laying the patio itself. Whether we’re working with Indian stone, concrete flags or block paving, we lay each element with precision, ensuring perfect alignment and a professional finish.
We’ll also install any drainage needed to prevent water pooling, and ensure gentle gradients where required.
5. Finishing touches
Once everything is laid, we complete the pointing (the filling between the joints), clean down the surface, and make sure every detail is spot on.
This is also when we’ll walk you through the finished project, answer any questions, and share tips for aftercare to keep your patio looking its best.
6. Enjoy your new outdoor space
With your new patio complete, it’s time to enjoy it! Whether you’re planning a barbecue, morning coffee in the sun, or just some time to unwind, your outdoor space will be ready to impress.
